It is hard to be sure of anything concerning the Gods, but you know this: Aroden had vanished, and prophecies had not foretold this. The clergy of Pharasma were shocked when he did not arrive as expected. There was a flash of light, and then…nothing.
The riots tore Cheliax apart, and it marked the effective end of King Gaspodar’s reign.

Just over a century later, Aroden returned to Golarion, taking the form of what you believe to be a celestial titan. Pharasma again appeared, and his sudden attack caught her by surprise. Always more of a scholar than a warrior, the Lady of Graves fell back against the onslaught. But she was a goddess in her full power, and Aroden was weakened greatly. She began to defend herself, and then turned to engage him fully. While weak, a century of imprisonment drove him forward with an implacable rage. He would have destroyed himself that day, which brought the battle into a bitter parity, as Pharasma was retaining strength for a possible escape.

Then, surprisingly, Lord Asmodeus joined the fight, catching Pharasma by surprise. The two made short work of her, ripping her very essence asunder. When Aroden fell to a knee exhausted, Lord Asmodeus simply left, having taken what he wanted.

But how could it be possible to catch a goddess by surprise? What weapon would be capable of such ruin?

It must be the case that Asmodeus has used the Ihystear. Which means it is no longer deep within the Nine hells, but has recently been on Golarion itself.
