The red-skinned tielfing just sat there, next to the river. He was confused about why he was sitting here on this river bank. There was a fight, again. Viggo was hiding by that door. Did Roy fall down again? Wait! Giant, skeletal beast. That’s it!
“Awe, shit!” he exclaims. “I’m dead. So that’s why the sky is red. Hmm.” He stands up and strolls about. In the distance he sees figures running, with other, larger figures chasing. Down stream he sees more of the larger figures tying ropes about smaller humanoids and tossing them into the river and letting the captives float away trailing the ropes which were tied to stakes set into the ground. Wow, those look like those devils we fought. “Devils? Oh, man. I’m in hell.” He looks down at himself. “And naked.”
“Well, I am part oni. I should look more the part.” Suddenly, the tiefling morphs into a more devilish shape. His teeth extend further, he grows in size. A tail sprouts out from his nethers. He looks down at his arms and flexes. “That will do. Now about those clothes.”
He strides confidently along the bank of the river, towards a slight glow in the distance. Possibly a city when he comes across a nasty looking devil with horns, fangs, and a writhing stringy beard. The devil is carrying a long, vicious looking glaive. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Uh, I got ambushed by some adventurers back there, and they stole my…nevermind. Washoosh!” The tiefling casts a spell, catching the devil unawares and a hurling blast of water hits the fiend and shoots it into the river. The pseudo-oni bends down and picks up the glaive that the devil dropped and watches its eye go vacant as it floats down the river Styx.
“Nice shootin’ there, Nico,” a small imp says as she floats in the air near the tiefling.
“I couldn’t think of anything really to say. Why would a devil be walking around naked in hell?” Nico pauses. “Hey, Livia. What are you doing here?”
“I died too. Some bastard made of light shot me. And we are in Dis, hell’s second layer. That is the city Dis there in the distance. We shou…awe hell!” At that time, Livia spots a large group of various devils strolling towards them from the city. Imps. Barbed. A bone devil. Some disgusting lemure. And one bearded devil, complete with devilish grin, come to a stop about ten meters from the duo. “Oh shit. It’s him. Tasmodeaux”
The bearded devil laughs haughtily. “I told you, bitch. I’d be waiting. I bet you didn’t think it’d be that quick.” Livia looks down towards her feet while the devil continues. “Siding with the mortals and that, half-wit, half-fiend. Pathetic.”
“Are you…” the devil pauses. “Afraid of what I will do to you now?”
“Steen-muche” Niko waves his arms as stones, rocks, and pebbles fall from the sky enveloping the troupe of devils. Most start laughing, unaffected. A couple trip and fall. One lemur dies, but that only causes the devils to laugh even harder.
“Oh… I see you’ve brought… the half-wit, half-oni with you. This is grand.” The barbazu can barely get the words out in between fits of laughter.
“Run, Nico.” Nico turns and sprints away at full speed while Livia flies keeping pace. The bone devil laughs once more and claps Tasmodeaux on the back. “This looks humorous, but I’ve got to go.” The Osyluth clatters towards the city and disappears.
Tasmodeaux disappears and reappears next to the fleeing pair, taunting them while the imps and other devils give chase. The mortal and devil-lady realize the desperation of their situation, but Livia knows what’s in store for them, and figures she should just give what she can. Nico, is willing to do what it takes as usual.
“We can’t escape…” Livia says.
“…but we can take a few down with us.” Nico finishes just as the barbazu appears in front of him. Nico charges and drives the point of the stolen glaive into the devils chest. Livia blasts an imp with a spell and stings a second. Nico steps back from the staggering devil and casts a spell. A geyser of boiling water shoots from the ground beneath Tasmodeaux and he flies into the air with a surprised scream, only to come falling back to the ground with a thump. He lies there prone and spits at Nico. Then he snaps his fingers and poof. Another bearded devil is standing next to Nico, glaive at the ready.
The rest of the imps and lemurs have caught up to the battle. Livia cries in pain as she is repeatedly stung by multiple poisonous barbs. Nico is being beaten senseless by the lemur and sliced up by the new barbazu. Suddenly, time seams to stop. All of the devils are frozen in position. A booming disembodied voice is heard in both Nico and Livia’s heads.
“Livia. Nicolaus Tornikos. Would you like to be restored to life or continue your stay here?”
