“You have to help, the fate of the entire nation is at stake” insisted the woman.
“Your nation, not mine”
“Oh, do you thin this madness will end at the nation’s borders? Fire spreads, I thought you knew”
“Do not presume to lecture me on the ways of fire while you sit on my chairs and drink my tea. To raise arms against such a foe is madness”
“To attack him directly would be mad. We need instead to gather allies”
“It does not matter who you gather, few mortal men would have even a chance”
“You are a learned man, Khalid Ibn Shazz. You will understand why I dare not speak this name aloud” spoke the woman. She then used the remains of the wine to trace the shape of a winged eye on the plate.
“That sect has no power left. They are not what they were, and those of true power can be counted on one hand”
“You misunderstand me. I seek not the servant, but the master”
The room was silent for a time, as the Osiriani wizard packed more tobacco into his pipe. When the process was done, he glared at it until it began to glow.
Exhaling a richly scented cloud of smoke, the Osiriani wizard continued “What makes you think you will succeed where others have failed?”
“We have uncovered many secrets from within Delvehaven. Among them is the location of the Black Lbrary, lost these many years, and home to the most dangerous secrets of the Pathfinder society.”
“Those legends speak of guardians, that protected the world from what lay within”
“I have an ally among the Pathfinders that can help with much of those. But without Arael, we will need a healer”
Drawing deeply on the pipe again, Khalid sighed. “I know a man who can help us, quite holy. And quite mad. His name is Theodoric”
