Andarie was apprenticed as a musician in her youth, and hoped to become, someday, a master of stories for her people.
Unfortunately, her village was illegally raided by slavers, and she was captured. Her musical skills and small size were valued by a galley captain, who purchased her to keep time on the great drum, the one that set the pace for the other slaves. This was a hard life, and she was treated harshly for years.
Perhaps, in time, she will learn to put it behind her, but for now, the scars are still fresh.
