With a chime of the bell, the door opened, and a young woman stepped through onto the plush carpet.
“Tarvi! Ah, my apprentice, it is good to see you.” said the richly dressed Quadiran.
“Master Khalid, it is good to see you as well. I am sorry it took so long to return, but some of us had to walk.”
“Oh ho! The apprentice slyly criticizes the master. I have made no rules about how you travel. Teleport anywhere you like, but be warned, the churches of Asmodeus are protected against this sort of thing.” said Khalid, waiting for his apprentice to respond. “Or do you think it is my job to carry my apprentice to and fro, like a camel?”
“I, um, well, I still have things to learn, Master” said the young woman, staring down at the carpet.
“We all do, Tarvi. I myself learned much travellng the Bright Desert by camelback. Beware of chuul. Better they eat your camel than you. But tell me of your trip, you must have learned something on the way to Andoran, yes?”
“Oh, a great deal. Piren’s Bluff was far more complicated than it appears, with different layers, and factions, and schemes. And we had to face off against the Baron, a wizard of some skill himself, and his devil ally. It reflected one of my own spells right back at me, I still don’t understand how that can be done. But most importantly, we found this.”
(Tarvi reveals the collected treasure)
Khalid quickly intones a chant which causes his eyes to glow with a blue radiance, and scans the collected treasures. He stares at them a while, and then one item, a ring, floats up off of the table. "And where did you find THIS? Could it have been the Baron’s??
“I got it from Viggo, he asked if you could identify it. He sent your usual fee too” said Tarvi, as she opens her satchel to pay for the spell.
“Hmm. That makes more sense. If you look at these details here, you can see that it is of Quadiran manufacture. And the vibrations seen when magic is detected are interesting as well, probably the result of this ring serving as an arcance bond. It is quite powerful, and in the wrong hands, quite dangerous.”
“Tell your friend that I greatly desire this ring. It is of no use to him or his allies, as none of them are wizards. And since I do not have the coin to pay him directly, I will have to trade with him. Find out what he wants for it.” says the wizard, stroking his goatee.
“How will he know what to ask for/ What is it worth?”
“A great deal. A great deal indeed.”
